Egricayir HoneyEğriçayır Balı (Eğriçayır Honey) has been produced by Çay family of Yoruks of Boynuinceli for about 300 years on Mersin Eğriçayır plateau at an altitude of 2,450m on the Bolkar Mountains extension of Toros Mountains. Previously, Eğriçayır Honey had been consumed only by yoruk families living on this plateau, however after Eğriçayır Honey has been selected as the third best honey in the world and granted a bronze medal by the world beekeeping organization gathered in France in 2009, it becamewidely known by the whole world. Eğriçayır Honey, which has been produced by ÇAY family started organic beekeeping in 2009 with organic certification company TURKGAP, has been selected as "the second best Medical Honey of the World" and awarded a silver medal at the Bee Products Medical Congress organized in Lubyana city of Slovenia in September 2010. You can find in a variety of gourmet and organic markets, the Eğriçayır Honey have been produced by Şahbaz Çay and family by maintaining the same quality driven by the motivation of awards. Şahbaz Çay, producing Eğriçayır Honey, says; the difference of this honey is Eğriçayır plateau is dry after solstice (21 June). The flowers blooming at the plateau is watered by the melting mountain snow before solstice and they fight to survive in the dry season, and during this fight it releases honey in small amounts. Thus in this honey, humidity is low and the difference mainly comes from that and aroma and taste concentration.
