
TEMA Foundation
TEMA is the largest non-governmental organization of Turkey with number of members approaching to 400,000. Its establishment is based on the explorations for a solution of two friends who were anxious about the rapid destroying of the natural environment in the country. TEMA has been established on 11 September 1992 by Hayrettin Karaca, who is the founder of Karaca Arboretum and the owner of UN Environment Award, and Nihat Gokyigit, who is President of Turkish-CIS Cusiness Councils. TEMA Vakfı has organized hundreds of events since its establishment, many national and international cooperations, projects, and campaigns to arouse public awareness. The first and the greatest achievement of TEMA vakfi in legal area has been the unanimous approval of "Pasture Area Act" in Grand National Assembly of Turkey in February of 1998 that could not be enacted in 38 years and had been obsolete.
